The Hamilton Project at Brookings followed Head Start-eligible children into adulthood, comparing siblings within the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth. Participation raised the likelihood of attending college by 4 to 12 percentage points and postsecondary credential completion by an estimated 15 percentage points for Hispanic participants. It raised self-control by 0.15 standard deviations and self-esteem by 0.14, and participants carried better parenting practices into the next generation.
