The story behind this shirt

On September 26, 1983, Soviet Lieutenant Colonel Stanislav Petrov was on duty at the Serpukhov-15 early-warning post when its satellite system reported five incoming U.S. intercontinental ballistic missiles. Petrov judged it a false alarm rather than relay it up the chain of command, correctly: the system had mistaken sunlight reflecting off high clouds for a launch. The false reading came three weeks after Soviet forces shot down a Korean Air civilian flight, killing 269 people, at one of the tensest points of the Cold War. The sticker says "September 26, 1983. One officer said no." and carries the address of the Nuclear Disarmament page on this site, where the claim sits with its evidence, the best case against it, and the answer. It is sized for a laptop lid or a water bottle. Print partner and vinyl stock stay pending until a physical sample has been checked.
