Of the more than $75 billion the July 2025 reconciliation law appropriated for interior enforcement through FY2029, $45 billion is earmarked for detention capacity, more than the $29.9 billion set aside for enforcement and deportation operations combined. The Vera Institute's dashboard, current through March 10, 2026, found 19 of ICE's 20 largest detention facilities are run by for-profit companies, part of 152 new facilities opened during the current administration across 39 states and 170 reopened previously unused sites.
